Report on COVID-19 Variants in NYC
Earlier this week, the NYC Department of Health released a detailed report on the spread of COVID-19 variants in NYC. The two main variants of concern are:
- B.1.526 (the New York City variant)
- B.1.1.7 (the U.K. variant)
The report shows that the proportion of both variants is increasing, and are present in all five boroughs. The U.K. variant in particular has shown to be 50% more transmissible and can cause people to become sicker.
The NYC Department of Health urges New Yorkers to continue taking precautions. This includes getting vaccinated, waring face masks, social distancing, staying home if sick, and practicing good hand hygiene.
